Strange Rain

Bizarre rains are among the most puzzling — and still unexplained — mysteries reported from various places around the world. People have witnessed frogs, fish, worms, and even crocodiles falling from the sky. You might say — there must be a logical explanation. A tornado or strong wind picked up the animals and carried them, sometimes for hundreds of kilometers, before they rained down on unsuspecting people. That theory works for some cases, but the ones we’ll show you now are... different.

Here are just a few out of thousands of reports that remain unexplained to this day:

  • 1873, Kansas City, Missouri – The entire area was suddenly covered with frogs falling from the sky.

  • 1901, Minneapolis, Minnesota – During the peak of a storm, people saw a massive green blob falling from the sky. After the storm, various species of frogs — from many parts of the world — were found scattered across the area, disproving the theory that they were lifted by a local tornado or wind.

  • 1981, Nafplio, Greece – Hundreds of frogs fell from the sky onto the streets. This specific species is native only to North America. How did they end up in Greece?

  • 1861, Singapore – Frogs rained from the sky, an event accompanied by a strong earthquake.

  • 1989, Ipswich, Australia – Roughly 800 sardines rained down in front of the Harold and Degen's company building from a clear blue sky.

  • 1956, Chilatchee, Alabama – A mother and her son saw a small grey cloud on an otherwise clear sky. Suddenly, it began dropping various species of fish — some of them still alive.

  • 1890, Calabria, Italy – Blood rained from the sky. Some suggested strong winds had torn apart birds, but meteorologists confirmed there were no such winds. Others linked the incident to the devil.

  • 1869, Los Nietos Township, California – During a three-minute storm, chunks of flesh and blood rained down on the Hudsnova farm, leaving several hectares of blood-soaked land.

  • The American Journal of Science confirmed a rain of blood and flesh over a tobacco plantation near Lebanon, Tennessee. Workers heard a strange clattering sound and then saw a red cloud from which blood began to fall before it disappeared.

  • 1881, Worcester, England – Tons of crabs fell from the sky onto the town.

  • 1986, Evans, Colorado – Corn kernels rained down on homes, even though there were no cornfields anywhere nearby.

  • 1991, northern Tasmania – During a storm, several residents awoke to a strange noise. Outside, they found a mysterious white substance. Lab analysis revealed it was fish eggs falling from the sky.

  • 2001, Kerala, India – People witnessed red rain falling from the sky. At first, they believed the unusual color was caused by the reflection of the setting sun. However, analysis confirmed the rain contained decaying plant spores. But how did such material end up in the atmosphere?

  • 2001, Wichita, Kansas City – A strange shower of dried corn husks fell and covered the 37th North Street Avenue.

And finally, perhaps the most bizarre case of them all:
In 1990, a Japanese fishing boat sank in the Sea of Okhotsk, off the eastern Siberian coast — hit by a falling cow. When the crew was rescued from the sea, they told investigators that they saw several cows falling from the sky, one of which landed on their deck and critically damaged the hull.
At first, the crew was detained for allegedly mocking the investigation, but they were later released without explanation — and the case was never publicly addressed again. This strange story later inspired a Russian comedy series.

What causes these strange events remains a mystery to this day...
